Drive Smart Because Taking Even One Life Is Not Worth It

Imagine driving down an empty
road with no living being in sight. Would you take a chance to speed
up until you run out of gas?

Driving is a skill that contributes to one’s life by transporting
them from one place to another, however, it can be overlooked when
one is not taking precautions for the safety of others. People may
think that one text or one drink would not affect their ability to
drive. In every situation, there has not been a case where this
action could prevent the risk of accidents, especially if the person
is driving without their eyes on the road. People should take driving
seriously by learning through a drivers ed system and taking
steps to not only improve how people act when driving, but also keep
innocent beings safe from harm.

Why should a person take a driver
education? Drivers ed is a way for adults and young children to
be aware of their surroundings. For example, when a person is driving
at night, he or she would be having their headlights on and using
their mirrors in order to avoid any cars or living things that are
hidden due to blind spots. With a drivers ed, human beings and
animals are at a low risk of death since drivers would have more
knowledge of what is right and wrong when driving near populated
areas.

In addition, there are steps in
order to reduce the risk of taking one’s life. One of the steps is
to check the vehicle before using it. Doing this can minimize any
malfunctions that a vehicle may have, such as low tire pressure,
blowouts, and steering problems. After checking the status of the
vehicle, the driver would know whether or not it is safe to drive in
public. Another step is to be aware of the areas surrounding the
automobile. For example, the term “tailgating” or in other words,
“not leaving enough distance between the vehicles” is one of the
main causes of accidents. This can cause the driver behind the
vehicle to press the stop pedal too rashly or affect others who are
driving near the vehicle. The third step is to have your seatbelts
and do not distract the driver. This could help the driver feel more
relaxed. These safety measures are meant to guide drivers and learn
that a vehicle is not a toy to be played with.

Experiencing a car accident has
affected my family and I mentally and physically. Years back, a
vehicle crossed in front of my family’s vehicle too close, causing
my father to push the brake pedal. We were fine until a vehicle
behind us crashed into the back of our car because the driver did not
slow down in time, creating a force hard enough to push our bodies
forward and back in our seats. Luckily, we all had our seat belts. I
am thankful that no one got hurt and I did not lose a family member
that day.

Steps I can take in order to
become a better safer driver is to keep in mind that everyone wants
to be safe. Not everyone is perfect, however, it is not an excuse to
make the same mistakes until it becomes a serious issue. Remember,
drive smart because
taking even one life is not worth it
