In Just One Second

One second is all it takes. When we get in the car we don’t think
about the risks that come with getting on the road. Statistics show
that thirty-four thousand lives are taken as a result of driving
every year. To you it might be just a number, but for someone else it
is their mother, their father, their siblings. Drivers ed is
important in order to reduce the number of lives taken as it can help
ensure people drive with focus, drive correctly and follow the laws
placed in order to avoid accidents. Educating drivers will guarantee
that drivers follow traffic laws in order to ensure not only their
safety but the safety of everyone around them. To reduce the number
of deaths related to driving we can make sure people know the
consequences of driving, for them to know that in just once second
everything can come to an end. By promoting the risks of driving
individuals may grasp a better understanding of the fact that when
they are on the road, it is a necessity to drive with focus and
follow all laws in order to ensure that they come home at the end of
the day and allow drivers around them to do the same. We can enforce
drivers ed, so that individuals know exactly what to do to
ensure that accidents are avoided, if people know what they are doing
on the road, the number of accidents is likely to decrease as
everyone will be focused when driving. Although I have never been in
an accident, I witnessed one. There was a guy who couldn’t have
been past eighteen years old, laying lifelessly on the road. In that
moment, I realized that that could have been me, my family or my
friends and it would all happen in one instant. I have encountered
times when I have seen my friends driving irresponsibly, by texting
while driving, driving faster than they should be, switching lanes
abruptly. In those times, they do not take into consideration that in
just one second, they could not only end their time on earth but they
can also take away the lives of drivers around them and the rest of
the people in the car. In that one second while looking down because
their typing, they could collide with another car, taking someone’s
life, without being able to go back. To be a better driver and help
others become safer on the road I can make sure me and others know
traffic laws and follow them at all times, I can promote driver
education and I can make sure to never divert my focus as well as
encourage others to avoid becoming distracted while driving. Most
importantly if people knew the consequences of driving recklessly
they would understand the importance of driving safely because they
will be aware that all it takes for everything to end, is just one
second.
