Driving, Our Responsibility to Ourselves and Everyone Else

By
educating ourselves and others about how to properly drive safely and
legally we can, and will, reduce the number of deaths related to
driving. Everyone should understand that driving is a group effort,
if you work for your own benefit you may hurt and injure others.
Driving only works if we all work together for the benefit of us all.
If everyone knows the laws people will be better informed on how to
drive safely and will, therefore, be more inclined to do so. Also, if
everyone knows the laws, they’d know the consequences of breaking
them too which would make them less likely to break them because they
know how much they’d be fined. Additionally, by knowing the laws,
there will be fewer accidents simply because people will know how to
avoid them. Overall, informing people on how to drive safely can have
numerous safety benefits, including lowering driving-related deaths.

Requiring
Drivers ed classes alone would be extremely effective in
reducing deaths related to driving. As aforementioned, educating
drivers on how to properly drive would help reduce deaths related to
driving. Even by just having a short driving tip of the day on the
daily news would help inform people on safe driving tips. Another
possible way to reduce driving related deaths is by increasing funds
for police and highway patrol officers. If there were more officers
patrolling the streets, everyone would be more cautious of their
driving and they would be able to prevent possible accidents before
they happen.

Fortunately
for me, the closest thing to a car accident that I have been in was a
family member rear-ending another car while they were both pulling
out. I hope that I never experience a car accident for my own safety
and the safety of others. My family is generally good about driving,
whenever they receive a call or text they give it to the person in
the passenger seat to respond to so they are all good drivers. On the
off chance that someone else is driving me, I do notice that quite a
few people will check their phones at red lights or use their phone
to switch which song is playing.

To
make myself a better and safer driver I can make sure to minimalize
distractions in my car. I already do this by putting my phone on
silent and handing it to another person to watch while I drive. I
also allow the passenger to control the music so I do not have to
avert my focus from the road. I can help others be safer on the road
by doing the same for them. If I am the passenger I can try to
minimalize distractions to them and handle everything in the car that
they can not (such as the music, air conditioning, and the other
passengers). I will also discuss road safety with those who drive
irresponsibly by informing them as to why it is so dangerous to text
and drive.
