A Gift; Not A Right

Gift; Not A Right
Death,
loss, mourning, physical and mental health issues-all things caused
by accidents. But, we cannot simply pin all of these occurrences to
the word accident. In fact, are they all by accident or simply by
ignorance? We may never be able to tell them apart, but there are
many safety measures we can take to prevent deaths on the road.
As
a young adult who has experienced a driving education as well as many
hours on the road, I can say in full confidence: there is no
guaranteed safety. Driving takes focus and a humbled, clear mind. Too
many times I have seen my peers disregard the importance of driving
around and ignore safety precautions. I truly believe to understand
the importance of a driving education is to understand driving
itself. When I attended drivers ed, I not only learned road
edicate and driving but also the dangers of not paying attention to
the instructions taught. Without proper education, I would not be
aware of how focused I need to be on the road and the dangers that
present themselves. Drivers ed equips the next generation
of drivers to be safer on roads, which helps prevent deaths while
driving.
There
are many ways to prevent accidents while driving. During my driver’s
education, we were told to dig deep in our books. It is important to
know what signs mean. This will help you comprehend what you need to
be doing on the road. Many accidents are caused by missing traffic
signs. Therefore, it is very beneficial to know your signs and pay
attention. A piece of advice from my instructor was to “aim high.”
This means to always be looking and planning ahead. Know what is
coming and plan for any warnings. This will prevent accidents to a
substantial extent.
Whether
it’s surprising to you or not, many people drive in a very reckless
manner. In some ways, this reckless and callous driving is a way of
ego, while in others it is an expression of impatience or rage.
Either way, it is better to “put down your ego,” or abstain from
releasing your anger, than to be responsible for a death. Once put
into perspective, I believe many people might see how senseless their
reckless driving is. I have been in cars where the driver is not
taking the control they have seriously. It is an immature,
self-destructive, and selfish way of driving. Driving is a gift to
earn, not a right to have, and it should be treated with caution.
In
conclusion to this short, but necessary essay, I want to encourage
everyone, no matter what age or experience, to take a look at their
driving patterns. Are you being responsible with the privilege you
have? If not, I advise you to practice and learn about road dangers
to achieve a higher safety on the road. So I entreat: do not abuse
your ability to drive, and please stay safe.
