Iife’s Important Decisions
Life is full of
decisions. They can be deciding on what to eat for lunch or where to
apply to college. While every decision one makes a day is important,
the most important decision teens can make is to drive safely.
Getting a drivers ed is an important part of this. With a good
education, drivers everywhere can be comfortable driving on the
street, in neighborhoods, or on the highway because they know others
around them learned how to drive safely and properly. If something
were to go wrong, they would know how to handle the situation and
reduce the likelihood of someone getting hurt. A drivers ed
would also decrease the chance of people acting irresponsibly while
driving because they know what the outcomes of their decisions would
be. Every decision drivers make would have an educated understanding
behind it that would ultimately have positive and safe outcomes.
A lot of deaths
related to driving happen because of distracted driving. When people
drive, they think they are the exception. They believe they know how
to safely drive while being distracted by either a phone, or others
in the car. However, there isn’t a way to drive distracted. Whether
it be looking down for a quick second or tilting your head back to
drink something, the driver is still distracted and driving requires
the driver’s full attention. To reduce the number of deaths related
to driving, drivers need to start limiting distractions in the car.
Phones should be out of sight and out of mind. It’s impossible to
use a phone while driving without giving it the driver’s complete
attention. Phones and driving both require the driver’s complete
concentration. Drivers can also limit distractions by driving alone
or telling their passengers to not distract them while they drive.
Humans naturally look towards the people they are talking to, which
can cause the driver to miss something happening in front of them.
I’m the youngest
driver in my family. While I’ve only been driving for a year, my
family members have been driving for over ten years. Everyone has
been lucky to not have been in any serious accidents; however, I have
noticed that they can make some bad decisions while driving. The
common one I’ve seen is texting or talking while driving. Since
they’ve been driving for so long, they believe they can do both.
This is not the case because there have been times I had to call
their attention to the road. Watching them over the years encouraged
me to become a safer driver by staying off my phone while driving. To
help others, I educate them on the dangers of distracted driving.
After hearing what could happen, they are less likely to drive
distracted because they know the outcomes and they want to stay
safe.
