Rather be safe than sorry
Driver
education is important to reduce the number of deaths from driving
accidents. If more people are informed to drive safely, there will be
less deaths as a result of driving. I think it is very helpful for
drivers to know the consequence of dangerous driving to avoid car
accidents. Drivers can then be more cautious and aware of their
surroundings on the road.
There
are multiple steps that can be taken to reduce the number of deaths
related to driving. One step is incorporating drivers ed in
schools so that every young student driver is required to be
attentive on proper driving skills. My school for example has
assembles to present and discuss real life examples of drunk driving.
Another way my school raised awareness for drunk driving is by
holding a mock crash. A mock crash is when the juniors volunteer to
be a part of a fake drunk driving scenario where real police and
firefighters are involved. In addition, we can remind people how
dangerous driving can be when distracted by setting up signs that say
not to text while driving or buckle their seatbelts. The best way is
to have enhanced safety features in cars such as automatic stopping
brakes to reduce the number of deaths from driving.
I
have never experienced being in a car accident, but I have seen my
friends and family members drive irresponsibly. Most of the time they
drive irresponsibly due to the distraction of their cell phones in
their hand. These days everyone is attached to their mobile devices
and can’t seem to detach from them. It is terrifying to be in a
moving vehicle knowing there might be a crash all because of a
distracted driver.
There
are several steps I can take to be a better and safer driver to help
others become safer on the road. One step is to have my phone out of
sight while driving to prevent me from being distracted. If I see my
friend or family member distracted by their phone when driving, I
will politely tell them how dangerous it is to text and drive. Then I
will have them hand me their phone to stop them from being
distracted. My friends text messages are not that important compared
to their life and mine. Sometimes the driver will have me, or another
passenger type the message for them. Another step that I can take is
to buckle my seat belt whether I am the driver or passenger. Before I
put the car in drive, I will always remind my friends to have their
seat belt on. The most important step to take is to follow the speed
limit. It is very easy to go over the speed limit when distracted,
but I always remind myself I rather get somewhere safe then to be in
a rush to be in a car accident.
