Driving Safe

When it comes to
being safe on the road, many factors are involved. The open road
offers many freedoms but it also comes with laws that must be
followed. The laws that are currently in effect are there to ensure
the safety of everyone. I myself have recently embarked on my driving
journey. As a younger, less experienced driver, I feel that it is
extremely important for divers and pedestrians alike to understand
the rules of the road. For those looking to obtain a license or a
permit, I cannot stress enough the importance of a driver’s
education course. So many people out on the road are very reckless
and constantly put others in danger because of their own apathy. In
educating drivers through use of a drivers ed course may
help lessen the number of casualties that occur every day. In giving
people the opportunity to learn in that environment may bring to
light a law that someone may have neglected to study.

Alongside those
who break the laws of the road (whether knowingly or not) are those
who drive distracted. I strongly believe that distracted driving is a
major issue our society as a whole face today. Every year, over two
million distracted drivers are the cause of a car crash. In the few
precious seconds in which attention was diverted, a crash may have
been avoided. My idea for helping with this issue involves
technology. Aside from just putting a phone aside, there are apps out
there for phone users that block its usage while a vehicle is in
motion. Some other precautions one can take is to make sure the music
isn’t playing too loudly to the point of impairing the driver.
Another important thing is for drivers to put on their headlights
when visibility is questionable (weather or dusk/dawn).

I have had a few
experiences involving car accidents. For the most part, my
experiences were minor bumper taps in which insurance information was
shared between the drivers and both parties moved on fairly quickly.
However, I have also experienced more major incidents. My most recent
experience was on March the 27th in 2020. I was witness, along with
my family, to a head on collision outside of my subdivision. The two
vehicles involved were a black van and a white car. When the incident
occurred, it was in the evening and the sun was getting a little low
in the sky, this is important because the black van did not have her
headlights on. The black van had the right of way but the white car
was preparing to turn (without a turn signal, I might add) and had
swerved in front of the black van, causing the head on collision. The
white car spun out into the nearby irrigation ditch and both vehicles
had the front bumper smashed in. Luckily, I had my phone handy and
911 was called. An ambulance was needed and everything needed to be
properly sorted out.
