Increased Drivers ed is a Necessity for Young Adults

The
amount of deaths that are happening in the U.S. due to unsafe driving
is unfathomable. Many young people cannot wait to drive. They spend
their nights dreaming for the day they turn 16 and can
finally
hit
the roads. This was not the case for me. I watched as new drivers
around me sophomore year got into accident after accident during
their first year of driving in fear. I have always been aware that
the most dangerous thing we do in our daily lives is step into a car,
and I wanted to make sure I was fully prepared for the responsibility
of handling my life and everyone on the roads lives before I started
to drive. I waited until I was 18 years old to begin driving and
because of this I have never been in any sort of perilous situation
when I was behind the wheel. Drivers ed is the single most
important thing we can do in order to reduce the number of deaths
that result from driving. Many young teens I know, take the online
portion of the exam with no preparation and ask their parents or even
google for all the answers. It is these same people that get into
accidents and risk the lives of not only themselves but families on
the road. I believe that in order to avoid so much death, we need to
implement drivers ed strictly and cannot allow people to
get
around

learning
safe driving techniques. The one thing I see most in teens and young
adults is, of course, texting and driving. I think the biggest thing
we can do as a society is ensure that teens and adults are fully
understanding the danger of texting and driving. We should emphasize
this in schools, online and especially during drivers ed.

I
have thankfully never personally been in a car accident, but have
witnessed many of the people closest to me get into them. The first
car accident I ever witnessed was my older sister and it is probably
the reason I am so adamant on safe driving. She made a dangerous left
turn and had the entire front of her car taken off by the other car.

The
scene of the accident was one of the hardest things I have ever had
to look at in my entire life. The fear of knowing that one of the
people I love most could have died if the car had hit her seat rather
than just the front of the car. After that, I witnessed my two
closest friends get into severe accidents as well. All three cars
were totalled from these accidents and all people involved had been
injured but were okay. All three accidents could have easily been
fatal. All three accidents were at the fault of the people I loved. I
realized after seeing my loved ones in these situations that I needed
to ensure that I was a safe driver and understood every single rule
when on the road, which is why I spent so much time preparing for my
license.

I
am always telling people to drive safe and reminding them the rules
of the road because of the experiences I had with car accidents. I
think the one thing we can all do to ensure safe driving is remind
the people around us about the simple thing they often forget in the
heat of daily activities, life is precious.
