Importance of Driver
Education in reducing the Number of Deaths as a result of Driving…

Driving is a very important
skill for people to know how to do, especially in the town I live in.
I am from Billings, Montana and even though we are the largest city
in Montana, we do not have much public transportation around. There
are some city buses here and there but if you really need to get
around driving is most likely people’s first choice. According to
The National Safety Council, 38,800 people died due to car accidents
in 2019. Now although this is most likely not fully accurate, it is
probably close and way too high. Drivers ed allows people to
learn how to drive responsibly and accurately. Through tests about
driving basics and rules drivers are able to understand how a car
functions and how they are supposed to control it. Drivers also
experience the ability to be in a car and go on drives so that once
they get their license they will be able to not only understand how
to operate a car but they will know how to apply this knowledge into
actually operating one.

Steps taken to Reduce the
Number of Deaths related to Driving…

I have always mentioned my
idea to people and I usually get turned down. I can admit, it
definitely does not sound like the funniest idea, but I think that
some sort of drivers ed renewal class would be a good idea.
Whenever someone gets their driver’s license renewed they will also
have another driving test much like the one they may have taken to
get their license. This step may only be somewhat helpful, or not
even at all, but I do think that a step like this would be in the
right direction. In order to help prevent deaths caused by driving,
people need to be responsible and look back to the ideas and lessons
they learned during drivers ed when they were fifteen/ sixteen.

Irresponsible Driving…

As
a high school driver, I see a lot of bad driving. I see high
schoolers being reckless but I also still see some adults that are
not doing the greatest either. I think the main reason people do not
drive as responsible as they could be is patience. Patience is a big
key step in driving. You are on the road with a ton of other people
and everyone has somewhere to be by a certain time, but looking
around and putting less focus on your own priorities and more towards
others can really help. I have a lot of friends, and even myself, who
deal with a lack of patience while driving and this can result in
some bad and very dangerous situations. I live in Montana where we
get a lot of snow and driving in the wintertime is almost everyone’s
least favorite thing to do. Patience can be a big deal in Winter. You
must drive slow, leave a lot earlier than usual, and you have to make
sure that you are able to clear off your whole car so all normal
visibility points can be used. You will see a ton of wrecks and
probably deaths too in the Winter because of how dangerous the roads
and other drivers can be.

Steps Forward Towards
Safety on the Road…

Looking
forward, this essay has really opened my eyes to how important safe
driving can be. It is something that all people would say they “know”
how to do, but most probably do not carry it out. Looking at how I
drive I plan to work on the idea of patience and start being more
responsible. I want to make sure that I am never the cause of a wreck
that leads someone to lose their life and I most certainly do not
want anyone that I know to either. I plan to share this essay with my
friends and family so that we can discuss more driving and the steps
that they plan to take to become better.

Thank you…

Thank you for this opportunity
to write and dig into how I can better my driving. Thank you to
whoever read through this and I hope that you could get some
important takeaway from it.
