Rules Shouldn’t Be Broken
Driver’s
Education: to some it’s a title that they don’t want to hear, to
others it’s exciting to finally be one step closer to becoming a
young adult. But has Drivers ed actually helped these
students to be prepared in the open world? Drivers ed is
designed to allow students to fully maneuver a vehicle without any
supervision. Young drivers that don’t complete Drivers ed
are 75% more likely to get traffic tickets and 25% more likely of
being involved in a car crash. Students that have taken a Driver’s
Education class are less likely to get into a car crash due to them
having adult supervision and longer periods of time to learn how to
maneuver a vehicle. While teens that don’t take or can’t afford
to take Drivers ed don’t have much time or supervision
before they are required to test for their license.
What
can be done with the risks of teens getting into car crashes is to
have all students be required to take this course and with that,
lower the prices to take the class or let the district/government
help finance those families that can’t afford it. If we put this
into action, then many students will take the opportunity to take
this course which will make teens be safer on the roads with proper
education being placed on them. With adults on the other hand, it has
been decades since the first cars were made and yet many people don’t
understand newer risks of driving, for example being on their phones,
keeping their eyes off the road or even applying makeup. According to
proper research done by industries, one out of every four car crashes
in the U.S alone were caused by distracted drivers being on their
phones.
Have
I ever experienced a car crash? Thankfully no I have not, but I have
witnessed my father for example drive at some dangerous speeds and my
other friends driving recklessly whenever I or someone they know
shows up.
The
steps I’m willing to take/what others should take: If I pay
attention to the weather and if it looks like it may rain or snow,
leave early for work so that I can drive slower and be less of a risk
to myself and other drivers on the road if I had not allowed extra
time. Going at the speed limit is another good factor to point out
because if you go over the speed limit, you create a major risk of
others getting into an accident with you. Having self control can
reduce the risk of road rage influencing your decisions and possibly
leading to a car accident. Maintaining a safe distance between other
cars is important to keep in mind, a safe distance between you and
that car can be what helps you avoid a rear end collision. Everyone
can learn from other people’s mistakes and not get into an accident.
It’s all about following the rules of the road.
