Knowledge is Key

The importance of drivers ed in reducing the number of deaths
associated with driving is first and foremost, knowledge. This is a
key factor in curbing risky decision making that uninformed choices
often lead to. Making smart and informed decisions lead to a safer
environment for not only the driver, but everyone else on the road as
well. Creating a seamless flow of traffic is imperative to a safe
environment, however, and students and new drivers alike should be
armed with the skills to handle such a responsibility.

Certain skills are required to reduce the number of deaths related
to driving such as being a defensive driver, awareness of
surroundings, and being particular about impaired driving. A
defensive driver is one who anticipates what other drivers might do
and prepare for it. This action, depending on the circumstances,
could save lives. Also, being aware of surroundings and what that
means could cause or prevent an accident. Impaired driving is perhaps
the most dangerous, and it is vital that all drivers understand its
repercussions. Sleepy, drunk or high driving should not be taken
lightly. Knowing the dangers of these factors can significantly
reduce the number of deaths associated with driving.

I have not had an experience in regards to car accidents. However,
this is evidence of the safe and defensive driving methods my parents
always implemented around me. Leading by example, they always
demonstrated poise and efficiency when operating a vehicle, and this
is something I will carry with me when it is time for me to get my
license. By making sure my vehicle has no defects, communicating with
other drivers, being generous, driving defensively, and not making
reckless decisions, I can help keep myself and others safe on the
road.
