Driving
may be one of the scariest decisions I make everyday. Between drunk
drivers in the evenings, fresh out of the DMV new drivers, and plain
stupid drivers who don’t care about traffic and safety laws, driving
can be very dangerous if not equiped with the proper knowledge and
mindset. My best friend, Renay, and her brother inlaw, Rylan, were
hit by car driving through an intersection.
The
light was green, three cars in front of them had accelerated through
the intersection heading South and they proceeded as well. West and
East traffic was stopped; as directed by the red signal light. Until
a car hit the passenger side of the vehicle spinning Renay and
Rylan’s vehicle beyond control, till Rylan was able to regain control
of the car and pull into an empty parking lot near by quickly
realising Renay was unconscious. Witnesses say the man who hit them
approached the intersection at a high speed and had no obvious
intentions of slowing down for the red signal light or the other cars
occupying the intersection.
The
middle aged man who hit them walked away from the accident with minor
scratches, a totaled vehicle, and no traceable influence of substance
abuse.
Rylan
and Renay were both admitted to a hospital to undergo x-rays and
trama examinations. Rylan suffered minor injuries and was able to
recover at home with large bruises and soreness. Renay, however,
suffered from brain damage and was transferred to the trama treatment
center where she was admitted to the ICU for about a week. After
treatment there and many psychological tests and physical therapy,
she was transferred to another facility about two hours away from
home that specializes in children with trama and brain damage, for
short term memory loss and weak muscles. At this center she recovered
fairly quickly and was sent home three days later, but still unable
to return to school due to a concussion. She regained her short term
memory and didn’t remember a single thing from the accident, and
still does not to this day. But something was different; the person
who I saw earlier that was not the same person who returned to her
everyday life. Needless to say, my best friend has never been the
same since and this has cost us our friendship that I cherished
greatly.
I
wish I could give that man a lecture on the importance of human life
and the stupidity he had running through his head that day. Because
of this man, the world nearly lost two of the greatest people on this
planet. Thankfully it was by God’s will that they remained safe and
have no long lasting results of the car accident, besides the loss of
a strong friendship that I wouldn’t trade for the world.
