Educating
new drivers is imperative to reducing the amount of driving-related
deaths. As a young teen obtaining a driver’s license was a great
achievement because it is one more step towards independence and all
I could think of was the fun I would have driving. But I remembered
the drivers ed classes I took and it made me realize that driving had
to be taken more seriously. We need to educate drivers to let them
know that cars are dangerous machines that can take lives if not
handled responsibly and let them know the consequences of mishandling
them.

To reduce the number of deaths
due to driving many things can be taken into consideration like road
rules. Following road rules can help drivers become more responsible
while driving and it will create a safer driving environment for
everyone. Another thing that must be mitigated to reduce deaths is
distracted driving. Texting and driving, phone calls or any other
source of distraction must be taken care of before you begin driving.
Driving while distracted won’t only endanger the person doing it,
but everyone else on the road. Taking your eyes off the road for a
second can be enough to cause an accident, something I learned
personally.

I was on my way to meet with
some friends at a park nearby to play some volleyball. While on my
way there, I looked down to my stereo to change the song and when I
looked up all I saw was the back of a car right in front of me. The
air bags went off, my car did an entire 180, and at that moment I
might’ve been in shock, but I got out and asked the guy I rear
ended if he was okay. Fortunately, he was unharmed, and I was
incredibly lucky to have only a few cuts on my left hand. The whole
time everything felt unreal, like I was dreaming, and I began to
think about what could’ve happened. I could’ve injured someone,
killed someone, I could’ve done that to myself. That was a lesson I
can’t forget and since then I encourage everyone else to drive
safely because you never know what can happen.
