Drivers
ed contest

March/2020

I
took drivers ed last April and have been driving for a year
now, and drivers ed has helped me stay safe on the road for my first
year! And I’m grateful because I usually tend to see accidents very
quickly by new drivers. I can say drivers ed with my experience is
very important, I had a great mentor for the two month period I was
taking the class; his name was Paul and he showed me the ways of the
force on the road. Now with just my experience I feel that if it was
a mandatory class for the last two years of highschool(you can choose
to do it Junior year or senior year)There would be a lot more safe
lives on the road!

I
am a lot more confident on the road than I would have been just
practicing with grandad in the Publix parking lot.

Now
we are all imperfect, we are all human, so accidents happen; it’s
in our nature. But we can take really important precautions before we
get on the road and while we are on the road. For me my class showed
me all of the precautions like, checking the vehicle before you go on
the road, checking tire pressure, checking that your tires are not
bald, checking your mirrors and your rear view and so forth. But I’m
not here to give you a summary of my class, I’m here to give you a
in depth experience that I have so far. When looking out for people’s
lives on the road, keeping a level head first is important, you don’t
want to let things distract you, mentally you want to be allllll
there.

Number
two taking care of your vehicle, I know it’s hard sometimes,
sometimes your funds are low and your pockets are on Sahara desert,
but going out with bald tires or even low gas is dangerous. Managing
the internals is so very important. Number 3 having an idea of where
your going, I know we visit new places sometimes and especially with
new drivers you have to learn the roads and streets but, with all
these advantages things like technology and googles maps etc. take a
look at your route before you head out! When I first started and I
would hop on the road with a blind eye and have to figure it out on
the way, I would focus more on the route than me on the wheel!

A
while back my grandmother got into an accident that totaled her
vehicle. She hasn’t been the same since, it wasn’t her fault, but
to see how much this affected her shows how important, this topic
that we take for granted really is. To this day my grandma’s neck
aches and she can’t drive her Toyota Camry without her pillow on
her neck! (She keeps like a little rice sack in the car so that when
she’s driving she can keep her neck on it), that was 12 or so years
ago and the woman I hold to such a high standard could have been lost
that day.

We
know how important the aux is and having friends in the car too?
That’s a product of distraction, something I’m working on myself
too. it’s hard to drive without playing really good songs while
you’re driving but it can distract you if you don’t have the right
playlist; and a bunch of songs you don’t like are in the mix. A
good way to fix it is just like checking your route before you go;
having a playlist already set before you leave and making sure you’re
not focused on changing music in the infotainment system or another
way is having a mature passenger handle the aux. On that note to help
others be safer on the road if you are handling the aux don’t
bother your driver and be mature enough while having a good time,
making sure that if the driver looks in distress to turn down the
music and to be cautious of your surroundings while looking out for
one another.
