Respecting the True Capability of a Vehicle
Respecting the True
Capability of a Vehicle
My parents always
told me when I was growing up “A car is the deadliest weapon that
you will ever face.” I always took their advice very seriously but
prayed and hoped that a car would not take the life of someone I
love. On November 9th, 2017, that weapon took my friend
and his mother’s lives due to irresponsible driving by a teenager.
Drivers ed could have prevented this crash from occurring
because he was driving 90 miles per hour in a 55. I truly believe
that the driver was not aware of how deadly his vehicle was and if he
had learned the importance of driving safely Josh and his mom would
still be here today.
Drivers ed,
if taught properly, can teach the importance of driving safely to
prevent deaths and show drivers the correct and safe way to drive a
deadly weapon. However, many teenagers do not learn enough from
drivers ed because of the structure and or content that is
chosen to be taught in drivers ed. If drivers ed
was restructured and adapted to enhance the learning, the number of
deaths due to driving could dramatically decrease. In addition,
drivers should continue to update themselves with the changing rules
and regulations for driving a car to become more educated as a
driver.
As technology has continued to modernize, it adds another factor into
driving that can make for very unsafe driving habits- talking on the
phone or texting while driving. It is reported that 1 out of 4 car
accidents are caused by texting and driving. Most of my friends text
while they are driving which is extremely unsafe and could lead to
death. Even if the car has “hands free” phone connection, I truly
believe that it is still a big enough distraction for the driver to
crash and kill themselves or other people. To try to remedy this, if
I am in the car with my friends, I encourage them to put their phone
away or ask if I could send the text for them instead.
To be a better and
safer driver and help others become safer on the roads, I think that
we all need to respect and recognize how dangerous cars really are.
Cars are a very dangerous thing-every time you get behind the wheel
you could kill yourself or someone else if you are reckless or if
someone else is reckless. In addition, to become a better and safer
driver, I think drivers ed should include more information
on becoming a better defensive driver and including the risks and
statistics involved with texting and driving. Drivers should be more
educated so they can drive safer and so there are less fatalities
associated with driving every year. I hope and pray that drivers
become safer and less distracted on the roads, because I do not want
to lose any more loved ones to a car accident or unsafe driving.
