I
am a non-traditional student and my job outside of school is a school
bus driver. Every year we receive continued education on laws and
safe driving protocols. I believe that the few months of drivers
training that teenagers receive is not enough to inspire safe driving
habits for their entire lives. I feel that all drivers should be
required to take a refresher course with updated laws and regulations
every time they renew their license. Even adults need this refresher.
They should be shown the videos of extreme car accidents to remind
them that safety matters.

School
buses sit up higher than most vehicles and I see a lot of dangerous
behaviors on a daily basis. People eating, talking on the phone,
texting even people doing their hair and makeup in their mirrors
while driving 55 mph. Nothing is important enough to take your hands
off the wheel and your eyes off the road. If there is some kind of
emergency that requires your attention, pull over. It only takes a
second of distraction for you to cause an accident and take someone’s
life. You can never take that back.
