Motor vehicle
crashes are the leading cause of death for U.S. teens. The “North
Carolina 2017 Traffic Crash Facts” states that there had been
1,642 total crashes in my county with a total of 901 injuries.
Distracted driving is the most common problem of highway collisions
in the United States. When you are driving, it doesn’t take much to
help you pay attention to what you are doing and what is going on
around you. The first step can be to forget about your phone.
According to the Department of Motor Vehicles, studies have shown
that using a cell phone while driving — even when it’s a hands-free
phone — is the equivalent of driving drunk. Another is texting. On
average, it causes a loss of focus on the road for 4.6 seconds. You
can drive the length of a full football field in that time. Next, you
can maintain the condition of your car. Repairs aren’t cheap, but
investing in proper preservation will guarantee your vehicle is safe.
Make sure to get routine check-ups for your tires, brakes, fluid
levels, lights, wipers, and what more may be indicated in your
owner’s manual. Moreover, obey the speed limit! Speeding is a
significant contributor to deadly teen accidents. Don’t feel
compelled to keep up with traffic if it seems like everyone else is
racing by you. Driving a safe speed helps ensure your welfare, and
keeps you away from high-priced traffic tickets that can cause a
sharp jaunt in your auto insurance premiums. When I was a baby, my
mom, dad, sister and I were on our way home when a drunk driver hit
us. We all were fine; it was a minor accident. That is why buckling
up is always a must. The best way to defend yourself in a crash is
your seatbelt. Your travelers, whether they are riding in the front
or back, should be wearing a seatbelt at all times. Eating, drinking,
and seeking that ideal playlist shouldn’t be on your list of behind
the wheel actions. When you’re in the driver’s seat, focus all your
attention on the task at the hand: getting to your destination
carefully and securely.
