In the Driver’s Seat

Undeniably,
there is an issue with driving deaths and preventable car accidents.
I strongly believe that this new hands-free law will help reduce
deaths. I do still see drivers breaking this law and I think there
should be harder consequences or even stricter laws in place. In
addition to this law, another way to help lower deaths and accidents
is drivers ed, which is incredibly important in teaching
drivers, especially young and inexperienced drivers. This teaches the
importance of staying focused while driving, being aware of your
surroundings and the dangers of speed, especially corresponding to
road and weather conditions.

However,
there are existing laws that are being enforced to reduce deaths but
there could be more. Therefore, I believe that we as a community and
country can come together to reduce the number of deaths on our road
ways. One of these steps could be to add more continual driver
education. This would require drivers to do a class or a couple hours
of behind the wheel driving every time their license needs to be
renewed. I feel like this would be beneficial to all even if it seems
to be a little excessive.

Unlike
many drivers, I have been very fortunate to have not been involved in
any car accidents. I have even been lucky enough to not have had any
run ins with any animals, considering I live in the country. Sadly, I
have witnessed family members who have been less fortunate in the
car. Gladly, there has not been any family deaths due to being in car
accidents. In addition to family members being involved in car
accidents, I have observed family being irresponsible behind the
wheel by being distracted. I truly feel that this is just as bad as
being impaired behind the wheel.

Although I can’t control everyone, I can take steps to help reach
the goal of zero deaths on the roads. I will make sure not to be a
distracted driver and to be totally aware of what my surroundings
are. I will also try to educate others on the importance of safe
driving. Therefore, even being a responsible driver and giving rides
to those that wouldn’t be in the best condition to drive safely.
The amount of deaths on the roads is an issue that does need to be
addressed and by bringing awareness to it, will help us get closer to
zero deaths. Therefore, hopefully creating safer roads for our
families and us to be traveling on.
