Is
answering that text from Jennifer or Ken really that important? Is it
so important that you killed a mother and her child? Teenagers of
this generation don’t think about what the casualties of their
careless mistakes. Everywhere one might look, there is a teen driving
down a highway pushing 80 mph and their eyes are down in their
phones.
I
am a high school junior and I have the privilege of driving myself to
school. On my commute to school, I have to travel down a highway and
I sometimes see may pass a friend or two. Sadly, I can say that a
majority of the time I see them texting while driving. I can not
recall how many times I may be driving, and someone begins drifting
out of their lane because their attention is on their cellular
device.
I
know that a few years ago, South Carolina passed a law that required
anyone under the age of 17 is required to sit through at least four
hours of a Drivers ed class. Next door, the state of
Georgia passed a law that made it illegal for anyone to be on their
cell phone while they are behind the wheel of a vehicle. All of these
laws were passed in an effort to prevent serious car accidents from
occurring.
Unfortunately,
many people are still going to break the law no matter what the state
says. But alas, people do not realize how dangerous it is until they
have possibly killed a senior citizen or children crossing the road
when in fact all of this could have been avoided in the first placed
had they just powered off their device.
