I have experienced a car accident, and it had to be one of the worst
mistakes I have ever made. I
was traveling behind a few cars on my home, but the cars in front of
me came to a sudden stop. I have never had to hit my brakes so hard
as a newly experienced driver; however, it was too late. I was too
close to the car, and I didn’t brake quick enough. I was horrified.
I hit the car in front of me with such force that it hit the car in
front of it. It wasn’t long until I found out why they stopped:
there was a school bus dropping off kids. I was so scared and
confused and upset that I burst into tears on the spot. What had I
done? Are the kids okay? Are the drivers and passengers safe? I
didn’t even see the bus coming in my direction. Luckily, no one was
hurt, but I still had to live with the fact that it could have been
worse. I must learn from my mistake, so nothing else like that
happens again.
I’ve
learned from the accident that steps I and other drivers can take to
be better and safer drivers on the road is to
really focus on the road. There should be no texting, music playing
loudly, being under the influence, or passengers interfering. It is
important to watch the road and know what is happening around you
because that can make or break whether you or someone else causes an
accident. Another step I and other drivers can take to reduce the
number of deaths related to driving is to follow the rules and laws:
fastening seat belts, using turn signals, checking the mirrors, and
more. It is important for everyone to spread awareness on the issue
since so many driving accidents are caused by the driver not
remaining focused and not following the rules. It can easily be
prevented, and, by letting people know the consequences of these
actions, we can have more safe drivers on the road.
That’s
why drivers education is so important: it provides drivers,
especially new drivers, what to expect and how to be safe. It teaches
people how to take necessary precautions in many situations, and it
provides knowledge on laws and safety procedures to follow. With all
the information drivers ed provides, people will more
likely be prepared to go on the open road. Going to driver’s
education made me realize how much I didn’t know and how operating
a vehicle is a big deal. You never think that you will be the one
that will cause a collision or make a mistake, but the reality is
that it could be you. I hope drivers will receive this education,
so they don’t make the same mistake I made. I wish them the best,
and have a safe trip.
