Lightening
Fast
On
a sunny Sunday, Joe was on his way to his son’s baseball game. He
told his wife he would meet her there since he just got off work. The
game started at 3:30 and it was already 3:15 before he left his
office which takes 10 minutes to get to the fields from there. Joe
felt very rushed into getting to his son’s game and was hoping
there would not be much traffic or red lights stopping him from
making it on time. However, this was not the case. There was red
lights every stoplight he came upon and finally Joe was fed up with
it. He decided the next one that changed from green to yellow, he
would run it even if the red as already there. He did not think of
what would go wrong, he just wanted to get to the game. Once he ran
the light, the opposite flow of traffic did not see him and there was
a three-car pile up. One of them being Joe.
In
moments like these people need to realize what is being put at risk,
whether it be being late to a game, being on the phone while driving,
playing music too loud, or simply because they think it is fun to
break the law. Joe had choices in this case: stop when it was red and
be late or not be late and run the red lights. The choice he made
that Sunday cost him his life. He left behind his family, friends,
and even himself. Now, you are probably wondering how he left himself
behind. I can tell you why. Once he made that lightening fast
decision of running a light no matter what, he left behind his common
sense; his strong-willed mind.
People
begin to ask themselves why that happened and how stupid that person
was for doing that, when they do not even realize they do the same
thing. These people asking and not realizing they do it as well will
never want to admit that to themselves because they do not want to
picture or understand why they would even do that. Joe was in a rush,
just as everyone gets here and there. We make decisions that should
never be thought about in these instances. Sometimes, everyone just
needs to slow down.
Driving
is a secret killer when we are under stress or pressure because of
something so little that will not matter in the end. So what is the
point of putting our minds and bodies through all of it? In
conclusion, we all need to take a deep breath, relax, and put
everything first besides that distraction to save ourselves,
especially when driving because it is lightning quick.
