Drivers ed Essay Contest
I
feel there is a great deal of importance in educating people before
they are allowed onto the road alone. If we were to possibly educate
people more when they are going through the process of getting their
license or even waiting longer to allow people to get there license,
also drivers ed courses could become required to before
getting license. I believe this would help a tremendous amount in
reducing the amount of fatalities caused by car accidents because
everyday around 18 teens aged 16-19 are killed every day from motor
vehicle accidents. However doing all of this will do a great deal
to reduce the number of fatal and non fatal vehicle crashes, there is
still a main problem that hasn’t been addressed. 21 % of car
crashed were recorded to be because of distracted drivers looking at
their phone while operating a car. Also over 45% of fatal car crashes
we reported to be because of people driving under the influence of
drugs. I feel if these problems were addressed it would do a far
greater good then just the education factor alone.
I
have been in one car accident before, nobody was under the influence
and no one was being irresponsible. We were driving down side
streets by my school and the road we were on didn’t have any stop
signs but all of the streets intersecting the street had stop signs.
So naturally whenever we were driving on the street without the signs
we were quiet carful and drove slow. When we came to one of the
streets there was a car on our left coming to what looked like a stop
at the stop sign but they didn’t look enough to see us coming by
and they pulled out from the intersection right as we were going by
and both cars hit their brakes hard but it wasn’t enough. The car
that ran the stop sign who was at fault hit the car I was in on the
front left side and broke the headlight, and there was barley any
damage to the other car. The other driver was also a high school
student who was just leaving school. No one was hurt, the police, and
parents were called. Everything was dealt with properly and
everything was fixed.
I
feel that there isn’t that much I could do as one person to help
fix the problem, other then make sure that myself or drivers around
me are not on the phone, and if I see someone that may be under the
influence that report it to the authorities. I feel that as a
community could try and get stricter laws on things like driving
distracted or under the influence. But it is really up to the people
who are higher up in the local, state, and federal government to
decide the laws and make the big changed that I feel everyone can
agree need to be made to make the roads a safer place.
I plan to state
my true and honest opinions on all questions. For instance I believe
educating new and ever old drivers more will help reduce a decent
amount of accidents and fatalities while driving. However of 21% of
accidents on the road happen because of people distracted by their
phones and over 45 % of fatal car accidents have been reported to be
because of people who were under the influence while driving.
