Drivers
education is something that is often overlooked unless something
tragic happens. Most people who are already driving view it as common
sense, while those watching experienced drivers think it looks easy.
When it comes for one’s child to start drivers training, some think
it is pricey, and it is a bit, but it is well worth it. The knowledge
you depart on your child while you are teaching them is still
important, but they also need to learn the little stuff that you may
forget to tell them because it is just common knowledge to you. I
think when teenagers come to the age where they start taking these
classes, they not only need to learn what to do when they are behind
the wheel, but also when someone else in behind the wheel and they
are driving unsafe. They should be taught not to hesitate to speak up
and if the person driving really cares about them, then they will
stop. For example, I had a really good friend who had a really bad
habit of texting while way to tired. She was telling me about one
night how she fell asleep behind the wheel and hit a large snowbank
and messed up her car. I had a heart to heart with her about how
dangerous that can be and that even if she had a curfew, I’m sure
her parents would understand her staying the night somewhere and
being safe, rather than her going out and getting behind the wheel
and not being able to stay awake. I think if parents told their
children what I told my friend they would understand a little more.
If all parents evoke that if it is safer for you to stay, just send
me a text to let me know where you will be, or a text asking for a
ride, these young drivers would not feel the need to risk the drive
in order to avoid what they think will be a disaster at home. My
parents told me that if I was out, and I did not feel comfortable
driving home, whether it was that I was tired, drinking, or that the
weather or road conditions had turned bad, they would either come
pick me up, or let me stay at my friends or boyfriends house.
