The
Future Behind the Wheel
It is said that the youth in
todays world have the worst driving record of every age category.
Maintaining good road habits are important to start at the beginning
of ones driving career. Some describe youth drivers as reckless;
encouraged for the thrill of speeding down the roads. To fix this
stereotype, it is key to make them become aware of what reckless
driving may cause, teach good road habits, and remind how important
good road skills are. Driving is an important skill that everyone
needs to know and learn. It is important to learn from responsible
driver instructors to avoid developing bad road habits, stay away
from the distraction of technology on the road, and learn to be
patient in various situations. Since today’s young drivers hold the
future for drivers on the road, learning the proper driving skills
and techniques is vital to keeping the roads and all drivers safe.
A friend has recently gotten
into a car accident while driving down a major road in the city. It
was rainy and dark, and a car came out of nowhere turning left into
her car. She was injured for 3 weeks having severe whiplash from the
accident. Though she wasn’t at fault, she got injured from another
person not paying complete attention to the road. The weather
conditions on the road during this time was another factor that
played during this event. Though one cannot control the weather, it
is important to pay attention to the surroundings to prevent
accidents from occurring.
A common occurrence on the
busy city streets is drivers losing patients on the roads. When it is
rush-hour and the roads are clogged with countless drivers. People
lose patience with other drivers on the road. People tend to rush,
and be in a hurry, so they lose patience while driving. During these
busy times on the road people begin to cut other cars off by merging
in front of people causing a slow of traffic and causing more
accidents. We need to become aware of these things to prevent
ourselves from losing patience to become a better driver on the road.
Since the modern world
revolves around technology, drivers are constantly distracted by
phones. Distracted driving is becoming even more dangerous on the
roads. People are constantly distracted from the instant
gratification of cell phones. Answering texts or phone calls while
driving takes ones focus off the road and onto the device,
potentially causing major accidents. Any issues regarding distraction
from technology can easily be avoided by putting technology away in a
place not in the vision of the driver. If people can hear and see new
messages coming in, the temptation to answer may overpower causing
problems on the road. All drivers should be aware of the dangers
driving while distracted by phones may cause and have harsh penalties
if caught teting while driving. This can prevent people from pulling
out their phones on the road for fear of being fined. It is important
to educate people on the damage that distraction from technology may
cause to future problems on the road with distracted driving.
Being aware of your
surroundings is another very important skill to have while driving.
We may often develop tunnel vision when driving, meaning we become
unaware of our surroundings and stare straight down the road. This is
often the cause of not checking side and rear-view mirrors often, nor
turning one’s head to see down hidden street to make sure the area
is clear. Often one gets so consumed in the destination rather then
the journey getting distracted, thus causing more bad driving habits.
In order to brake this trend, we need to focus on the surrounding
rather than what lies just a head. One should be explained the
significance of checking mirrors often and knowing what is going on
around your car at any moment in time to have safe road etiquette
When we’re driving, we are
not just responsible for our own safety, but are also responsible for
the safety of everyone else that we are sharing the road with. We
need to become aware of our responsibilities to ensure that everyone
remains safe and can drive responsibly.
Young
drivers need to be taught good road habits when they first and
exposed to the world on driving. The safety of our roads depends on
everyone knowing the rules of the road and being patient with other
drivers. One needs to learn good driving skills at a young age to
gather good driving etiquette and be subjected to people who can
teach the young to drive responsibly. If we remain confident focused
and patient drivers, the future on the road may look good. The future
behind the wheels rely on the new drivers in todays society to step
up and make sure others are obeying traffic laws and driving
responsibly.
