Driver
education classes are required for teens who are looking to gain
their license. This helps raise awareness about the dangers of
distracted driving. Personally, I did not know how dangerous driving
a car was until I took the drivers ed class. The class taught
me about the number of deaths, what causes it, and how easily it can
be prevented. The teachers stressed the laws and the reason certain
laws were set into place. The classes teach teens what to and not to
do while driving. This helps prevent them from doing something that
could take their attention off the road or even speed leading to a
car crash. There were some films shown to the class that made us
really upset and scared. This also helped me when I drive because
anytime I go to look at a phone or have the music up really loud I
think back to that film. I do not want my parents having to deal with
everything the family did in the film had too.

There
are several steps that can be taken to reduce the number of deaths
caused by motor vehicles. One step would be to make it harder for a
teen to obtain their license. Today the license procedure is
extremely easy. The driving test is so short and it does not test
everything needed to drive safely on all roads. Another step would be
to make it mandatory across all fifty states to renew your license
every five years. The renewal process should be different from what
it is today though. The renewal process should include driving with
someone at the DMV like you did when you were getting your license
for the first time. This could keep older people in check with their
eyesight and keep their brain fresh on all the new and old driving
laws.

I
have only been involved in a minor bump up. My mom and I were heading
to my practice and we stopped at a stop sign. The van behind us was
paying attention to his dog and not the road. He hit the back of my
moms car. He caused minor damages like dents and scratches. It could
have been prevented if he was not distracted behind the wheel and if
he was not going slow it could have been a lot worse.

I
can become a safer driver by not playing the music so loud when I am
driving to ensure all of my attention is on the road. I can also make
my parents become safer by trying and prevent them from talking on
the phone while driving and playing music too loud. I offer to answer
the phone and tell the caller to call them later. My mom has given
into this many times, so I am already making her a safer driver!
