“Remember to
buckle up and put down your phone” are the common words from every
loved one before someone gets into a car because they are worried
about your safety on the road. Safe driving is something that is
important to educate everyone about regardless if they are elderly
and have been driving for years, or even a teenager just learning to
drive. By teaching everyone about safe driving skills then thousands
of wrecks could be avoided simply with education. Drivers ed is
immensely important when reducing the numbers of wreck related deaths
because it ensures the knowledge of the road and eliminates some
reckless driving. There are many steps to reduce the number of deaths
related to driving such as education, safe driving courses,
incentives for safe driving, and reenactments of real-life car
wrecks. Personally, there have been many instances that I have seen
friends of mine driving irresponsibly, so I usually volunteer to
drive. However, I can agree that I also could improve my driving as
well as educate others such as through FCCLA, and holding safe
driving presentations at my school. Furthermore, safe driving is an
essential topic that everyone can take part in to reduce the number
of deaths related to car accidents.
First off, driver
education is the more important step to take when it comes to safety
on the roads. It is important because it educates new drivers to the
meanings of road signs, road markings, how to operate the vehicle,
and even the common mistakes made by other drivers. Educational
driver courses essentially save lives because they make drivers aware
of how to properly maneuver the roads to avoid any kinds of accidents
that could result in death.
Secondly, there are
various steps to take in order to reduce deaths due to driving that
include education, safe driving courses, incentives for safe driving,
and reenactments of real-life car wrecks. Granted, there is already
education, driving course, and incentives from certain insurances,
but the normalization of these things would decrease the amount of
deaths from driving. In addition, reenactments of actual car
accidents would deter people from driving under the influence and
distracted which in turn would also reduce driving-related deaths.
I
am a firm believer that everyone knows that one person who is known
as the universal “bad driver” so I can easily say I have seen
friends drive very unsafely. In fact, just recently a friend of mine
made comments of not knowing of a yielded area, and it scared me that
we go there regularly. However, I am also sure that everyone has seen
people driving while using their phone.
Finally,
I can act as a leader and use my position as an Arkansas FCCLA state
officer to share safe driving through the Families Acting for
Community Trafic Safety national program by doing presentations and
sharing videos with classmates. I can also promote safety tips
through posters as well as social media posts to reach all audiences.
