Do you want to
go to Yale?! Wait, how about Harvard?! Or better yet UCLA?!

There are a
multitude of students in our nation applying to there dream college
in hopes of being the top percent to get into an Ivy league
University or college of their choice. The competition can be
intimidating, and the process is brutal, but I don’t think anyone
regrets it regardless of there acceptance status.

Driver’s
education is like the 5.0 GPA, 200 hours of community services, 3
sports, and 2 musical instruments played through out high school.
None of it goes in vain and is extremely valuable. It shows
dedication, hard work, and the experience of failing but persevering
to the finish line. Without any of these attributed accomplishments,
the chances of getting into any of these colleges would be dim.

Drivers ed
is that ticket and edge to having a better experience in driving and
life overall. Most people spend a percentage of there day driving.
It can be too and from work, school, activities, leisure or a road
trip. What ever the reason is, it doesn’t take long for a young
adult to realize they need a car to gain more freedom. Gaining the
knowledge of what is a responsibly way to drive and completely
understanding the rules of the road is like getting off to a great
start in college. It’s a responsibility and a privilege to drive.
A driver carries not only their lives behind the wheel, but all those
in the car and driving around them.

There are many
steps a driver can take to keeping the road safe for themselves and
others. Knowing who, when, and what are major questions to ask.

Who am I letting
in my car or who’s car am I getting into? Are they responsible and
will they respect my decisions as the owner and driver of my vehicle
or there’s? Such as putting a seat belt on, no texting and
driving, no drugs and alcohol, and do they obey driving laws?

When am I
driving? Is it during rush hour or late at night? Driving during
these hours can help determine the best routes to take and what to
expect.

What is my
purpose for driving? Am I going to a party, supermarket, or sports
event? Will there be drugs and alcohol? These questions can narrow
down whether a driver should even take their car or have a designated
driver.

Asking these
questions as a driver can really make the difference between life and
death. Being proactive, real, and responsible about situations.

Growing up, for a
short period of time, my older brother and I were watched by my
grandmother who was a secret alcoholic at the time. My brother and I
used to drive in the back seat of her car while she was under the
influence. She would swipe parked cars and hit poles in an already
populated and condensed city. We used to be extremely scared when
she would drive, and at the time my parents were not aware of her
problem. They were working 2 jobs each to keep a roof over our head
and food on the table. My older brother and I spoke about it and
finally told our parents. We were removed from that environment
immediately, but the experience never left us. It terrified us and
we knew the negative effects of driving under the influence.

About 2 years
ago, my cousin was involved in a drunk driving accident. The person
driving the vehicle was under the influence and slammed into a sign
on the highway. Her face was unrecognizable and almost didn’t make
it. It was a very traumatic moment and difficult time for our
family. After 5 facial surgeries, learning how to walk again, and
intense physical therapy, fortunately she is back in college as a top
student.

I believe one of
the most powerful ways to reach people about being a safe driver is
to be one yourself and demand nothing less from anyone who steps into
your vehicle or whosever vehicle I am getting into. Knowing your
surroundings and being aware of situations can change how you drive
and if you even will. Staying informed on all new driving laws and
sharing them with others is a way to letting others know driving safe
is important and a lifestyle.

Driving Education
is like your college education, in order to do what you love to do in
life you need to know how to do it. College is that avenue when it
comes to your career, and driving education is the avenue when it
comes to getting there safely. It’s a bigger part of life than
people make it out to be. It is not just transportation, but a
moment in time that gets you to your destiny. How do you want to get
there? I hope alive.
